Getting There: SIR + Staten Island Ferry
The route from New Dorp Lane to Catherine Street uses three legs of public transit, needs no car and involves only two transfers. Times below reflect typical weekday service, so check the MTA and ferry apps for delays, weekend changes or track work before you travel. Give yourself roughly 1 to 1.5 hours door to door, and a little extra for a morning appointment, when trains and boats are at their busiest. Bring an OMNY-enabled card or phone for the railway and the subway or bus; the ferry itself costs nothing, and seating is plentiful outside peak hours.
Step 1 – SIR from New Dorp to St. George
Board a northbound Staten Island Railway train at New Dorp station, just off New Dorp Lane near the shops and a few blocks from Miller Field. The ride to the St. George terminal takes about 25 minutes, passing Grant City, Dongan Hills and Grasmere. Trains are generally timed to meet ferry departures, so an on-time train usually lets you walk straight to the boat.
Step 2 – Staten Island Ferry to Whitehall
The Staten Island Ferry is free and crosses to Whitehall Terminal in about 25 minutes. Boats run around the clock, most often at rush hour and less often late at night and on weekends. The right side offers a view of the Statue of Liberty. Miss a boat at a busy time and the next one is usually under half an hour away.
Step 3 – Subway or Bus to 75 Catherine St
From Whitehall, walk a few minutes to Bowling Green and take the 4 or 5 train two stops uptown to Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall. Walk east about 10 to 15 minutes through Chatham Square to Catherine Street. To avoid stairs, a bus such as the M15 heads up the East Side from the ferry area and stops a short walk away.
Why Staten Island Patients Make the Trip
New Dorp has plenty of medical offices along Hylan Boulevard, so crossing the harbor is a choice, and we want to be clear about why some families make it. Our Chinatown care team speaks English, Chinese and Spanish, which matters to relatives who prefer to talk about their health in their own language. Same-day appointments are held back each weekday for new problems. We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare. And many New Dorp residents already ride the ferry to jobs downtown, so a lunchtime or after-work visit fits a normal commute.
Services Available
The Catherine Street clinic offers full primary care for adults and families. Staten Island patients most often book annual preventive care visits with screenings and vaccines, ongoing chronic disease management for diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and acute care for sudden illness such as infections, rashes or minor injuries. When you need imaging or a specialist, we arrange a referral, and if a specialist closer to home on the South Shore would be easier for follow-up, tell us and we will factor that into the referral. See everything offered at our Chinatown, Manhattan clinic.
Insurance Accepted
We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, along with many commercial plans that New Dorp families get through work. Because networks change and some Staten Island plans are built around local hospital systems, please call the clinic with your member ID handy before your first visit so we can confirm your plan is in network. If you are uninsured, ask about self-pay options when you call. Bring your insurance card and a photo ID to every appointment, and tell the front desk right away if your coverage has changed since your last visit.
