Getting There: SIR + Staten Island Ferry

Grant City sits roughly in the middle of the East Shore, between Midland Beach and the slopes of Todt Hill, so the route north covers a good part of the island before it reaches the water. Door to door, most Grant City patients should plan on roughly 1 to 1.5 hours each way, depending on how the train and boat line up. The three legs below are the simplest public transit option, and each one is easy to follow even on a first visit. Leave a little slack in the morning, because a missed boat can add up to half an hour.

Step 1 – SIR from Grant City to St. George

Board a northbound Staten Island Railway train at the Grant City station by Lincoln Avenue, just off Hylan Boulevard. The ride north through Dongan Hills, Grasmere and the North Shore stations to St. George takes about 20 to 25 minutes. The SIR fare is collected at St. George when you exit, so have your MetroCard or OMNY card ready there rather than at Grant City.

Step 2 – Staten Island Ferry to Whitehall

The St. George terminal connects directly to the SIR platforms, and the ferry itself is free. Boats cross to Whitehall Terminal in about 25 minutes and generally leave every 15 to 30 minutes, more often at rush hour. Checking the posted schedule before you leave Grant City is the easiest way to avoid a long wait in the terminal.

Step 3 – Subway or Bus to 75 Catherine St

From Whitehall, walk to Bowling Green and take the 4 or 5 two stops to Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall. Exit toward Park Row and walk east past Chatham Square to Catherine St, about 10 minutes on foot. Another choice is the M15 bus, which runs north from the ferry area along Water Street toward St. James Place, a few blocks from the clinic. Allow about 20 minutes either way.

Why Staten Island Patients Make the Trip

We will be straightforward: for a routine checkup, a practice on Staten Island is closer for most Grant City residents. Patients who travel to Catherine St tend to have a specific reason, and these are the honest ones we hear.

  • Our Chinatown care team speaks English, Chinese and Spanish, which matters to families who want a visit in their own language.
  • Same-day appointments are held back each weekday, useful when something comes up suddenly.
  • Many Grant City residents already ride the ferry to jobs in the Financial District, so a visit fits before or after work.
  • We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare.

Services Available

The Chinatown clinic offers the full range of adult primary care, so one trip can cover several needs. Grant City patients most often come in for preventive care and annual physicals, which include screenings and vaccines based on age and history. People living with diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol use our chronic disease management visits to review medications and lab results on a regular schedule. For a sudden cough, infection or minor injury, an acute care visit can often be booked the same day. When you need a specialist or imaging, we arrange the referral, including with providers closer to home.

Insurance Accepted

We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, at the Catherine St clinic. Because networks vary by plan and employer, please call (917) 304-0445 before your first visit so our front desk can confirm your coverage. Seeing a primary care doctor in Manhattan while living in Grant City, Staten Island does not usually change how a plan treats in-network primary care, but it is worth checking any referral rules for specialists. If you are uninsured or between plans, ask about self-pay options when you call. Bring your insurance card and a photo ID to every appointment.
